About the Winter League

How It Works

The Winter League is Beith Golf Club's own competition — it is not official and will not affect your Handicap Index. To enter, you must apply as a team of two to the match committee and pay to enter using the App by choosing the competition from the Events tab.

The best 5 scores over the winter from each of the two players is totalled, and the highest score wins. Scoring is Stableford, with the par for the 12 holes being 24 points.

Card Entry

Put your card in the box beside the iPad. Cards should be clearly marked with each player in a separate column. Please try to enter one card per time slot (2, 3 or 4 players per card).

  • Write the Winter League handicap for all players beside their name
  • Record the number of strokes for all players — Stableford points are calculated by computer

Handicap Cuts

Winter League handicaps start at half of your 18-hole handicap. Anybody scoring 26 or better on any week will be cut according to the cuts chart. For example, if you have a handicap of 6 and score 30 points, that is 6 better than par (24), so your handicap is cut by 0.6 for future rounds.

Winter Course Rules

  • No play from fairways unless played from a mat
  • Once beyond the white posts on grass cut to fairway height, take a preferred lie or use your winter mat
  • Preferred lies are in operation in the fairway only
  • If not using a mat, take the ball at least 2 club lengths into the rough and place
  • When Winter greens are in operation, all bunkers are deemed GUR
