This is a hilly course with increased risk of slipping
Please read this advisory guide before commencing your round and consult during play as appropriate.
This guide provides general health and safety information as well as identifying the main hazards and control measures for members, guests and visitors while playing or practicing golf on the course.
This includes a hole by hole risk assessment, however the hazards identified are not exhaustive and all golfers must be aware of their responsibility for their own safety as well as the safety of others on the course, including green keepers and ground maintenance staff.
GOLFERS CODE OF SAFE PRACTICE
- It is the responsibility of all persons playing or practicing golf to take all possible care for the health and safety of themselves and other persons on the course.
- Avoid striking balls to land in areas occupied by other players, green staff and any other persons on the course, car park or adjoining roads and property.
- In event of a mis-hit shot, the player and/or persons with whom they are playing should give the loudest possible audible warning (FORE!) to persons in danger.
- Keep clear of the maintenance sheds and associated working areas. Avoid areas where reconstruction work is in progress.
- Do not play to an area where green staff are working until they indicate it is safe to do so. Green keepers operating machinery will not hear distant shouts.
- Use steps where provided to access tees.
- When adjacent to dry stone walls and the like, check for the possibility of loose stones in the rough before playng the shot.
- Take appropriate precautions when pesticide notices are displayed.
- Report any potential hazards on the golf course for committee consideration.
- Report at the conclusion of play, and accidents/incidents related to safety.
- Tees, walls, fences, burns etc are recognised golfing hazards. It is acceptable practice that play from such situations is at the players own risk. If in doubt consider a penalty drop!
FOOTWEAR
All golfers (members, guests and visitors) must ensure they have golf shoes which are adequate and suitable for the ground/weather conditions on the day of play. The course, its steps and surfaces may be slippery when damp or wet. Take care on steep banks and when entering and leaving deep sided bunkers.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
Darkness, rain, fog and frost/ice: During inclement weather, the fact that the course has not been officially closed does not warrant that it is fit for play. Therefore, members and visitors should themselves determine whether they consider it is safe to play. Players have a duty of care to behave in such a way that others may not be injured by their actions. They also have a duty of care to ensure that they do not injure themselves. All players play at their own risk and should do nothing to jeopardise the safety of themselves or others.
LIGHTNING
In the event of an electrical storm, suspend play immediately and take appropriate action.
Shelters do not provide adequate protection from lightning. Do not continue play in fog/poor visibility when you cannot see the clear distance of your intended shot.
- If there is a risk of lightning play MUST be discontinued. Beith Golf Club is not responsible for the safety of any golfer on the course and it is therefore your responsibility to remove yourself from any situation which you deem dangerous.
- If you see lightning or hear the air horn (three short blasts) the following will apply:
Proceed immediately to the clubhouse.
Do not continue to play golf and do not seek shelter under trees. Trees do not protect you from lightning.

Beith Golf Club does not provide liability insurance to their members, guests or visitors.
